There is this great story about Michelangelo and the statue David. He said that when he saw the slab of marble, he saw David. He simply chipped away all the parts that weren’t David to reveal what always inside. There really isn’t a better metaphor.
Everything you need to succeed is already inside you. Everything you are, and everything you ever will be, is already in there. Even if you don’t know it. Even if you don’t believe it.
Everything is already there, but it may be lying dormant. You are going to have to pick up the chisel and start chipping away to reveal your masterpiece.
You’re going to have to chip away your apathy, your lack of discipline, and your complacency by identifying the “why” burning deep inside you. Your passion is what will motivate and keep you moving forward, step by step.
You’re going to have to chip away your negativity, your cynicism, and your victim mindset to reveal your positive, optimistic, empowering attitude.
You’re going to have to carve off all the self-oriented beliefs and behaviors that are driven by a scarcity mindset and care enough about creating value for others that you produce fulfillment in your life–and other’s.
You’re going to have to knock a big chunk out of the part of you that sells yourself short, believing that you aren’t good enough and that you can’t do what needs done. When that piece is gone you’ll find within the determination to persevere. It’s in there, I promise.
You have to chip off your apathy to reveal initiative. And you have to peel away your learned helplessness to expose the resourcefulness at your core. All of the creativity and imagination you need is in you right now, and so is your ability to take action.
No one has more of anything that you need to succeed wildly than you already have inside you right now. Once you believe this and take action, your life will be irrevocably changed for the better, and so will the lives all the people you touch.
Here’s your chisel. Get busy.
