If you show me your decisions, I’ll show you your ultimate results. Your day-to-day choices project the results you will invariably produce in the future.

Small Decisions, Big Outcomes

Every decision offers you a choice between something that moves you closer to your goals or one of the many things that move you further away from what you profess to want. It is rarely a lack of knowledge that prevents one from succeeding. Everything you need to know is already known, and if it is not known to you, it is easily acquired. What prevents people from obtaining what they want is determined by the discipline to make the right decision when faced with choices.

It’s all the rage to have a morning routine. There is value in starting your day with powerful rituals. All the advice you would ever need to start your day with intention is known. You can choose to wake up early without hitting the snooze button, meditate or pray or center yourself in some other way, rehydrate your body, and do some form of exercise for some reasonable amount of time. Some people start their day off in just such a fashion as I described here. More people hit the snooze button, wake up late, take no time for themselves, and drive directly to an office to begin working. They do so without taking care of the single asset through which they will produce all their results.

You are free to choose for yourself what you do, but you are not free from the consequences.

Everything Is Already Known

There are no secrets to losing weight and becoming more fit. There are so many conflicting ideas that it might be confusing to some, but it’s not likely. If you end your love affair with sugar and chocolate, drop all white starchy foods, reduce your caloric intake, and walk for 30 to 45 minutes daily, you will lose weight. Those decisions are what lead to the ultimate result of more excellent health, greater fitness, greater clarity, and all-around improved well-being.

No one struggles to improve their fitness because they are unsure of what to do. They struggle because of the choices they routinely make.

Why You Don’t Have Deals

Certain things need to be done to create opportunities when you work in sales. It is imperative that you call prospective clients to ask them for meetings. You also have to call back and professionally persist over a longer time than most are willing to endure. The amount of time and energy you exert in making calls and scheduling those meetings provides evidence of what your ultimate result will look like in the future. The decision to prospect means avoiding lesser choices when it comes to your time. You will close no deals you don’t first open.

Show me the prospecting blocks on your calendar, and I’ll show you your pipeline.

Who Matters Most

If you want better, stronger, more intimate relationships with the people you care about, the decision to spend time with them (and without your iPhone) will create those outcomes. That requires a decision to give the human beings you care about your full and undivided attention, something they may not be used to. If they haven’t experienced that gift for some time, it may cause them to ask about your overall health and wellness.

The poor choice you might make is to have your body in one place with the better part of you somewhere far away.

Your Future Security

It’s not difficult to acquire greater wealth. The decision to do so, however, causes people no end of problems. There is no modern banking offering that does not allow you to automatically transfer money from your checking account to a savings account and an investment account.

The best way to accumulate wealth is to invest for the long term, never touching the money you set aside. The decision to set the money aside and leave it alone is difficult when your choice is a new iPhone or the red sports car you’ve had your eye on for a very long time.

Small Choices, Large Implications

Some of the smallest decisions end up having the most significant impact on your results. If you want to improve your results, the decision to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day will not only change how you feel, the discipline itself will provide the foundation for greater productivity. The decision to prospect for the first ninety minutes of every day will pay dividends beyond anything you might accomplish by sporadically making a few calls.

Instead of deciding to do this or that, you must to let Future You determine what you do. If you choose small things over bigger things, your life will be small. If you make decisions to do what you should do instead of what you want to do, you’ll have a different outcome. Both outcomes, good or bad, are inevitable.

If you show me your decisions, I’ll show you your ultimate results. What is it that you want?
