You say that you want a greater level of success than you have presently. You want to do better than you are doing right now. But you haven’t done anything different today. In fact, today is a carbon copy of yesterday.
You post on social channels that you want to live in a different world, that you want to see change. But instead of doing something about the causes you care about, you sit on the sideline and armchair quarterback instead of lifting a finger to make a difference.
You talk a lot about all the things that you are going to do. You have big goals and big plans. But you’ve been talking about those plans since Shep was a pup. You are no closer today than you were the first time the idea struck you.
You promise yourself you are going to do the work you need to get done without failure. And then you open the browser window, and it’s Twitter, then Facebook, then Feedly, and down the rabbit hole you go. Your work won’t get done without you doing it.
The difference between success and failure is the willingness to take disciplined action over a long period of time.
The difference between the world you live in and the world you want to live in is your willingness to do something. Something positive. Something meaningful. Something that makes a difference.
The difference between reaching your goals and stagnation is action. What prevents action is apathy. What prevents action is fear.
What has your attention may not deserve your attention. If you want to do good work, you have to give yourself over to the work, and that means giving it your full attention and focus.
You do not become what you think about. You become what you think about when you take the necessary actions to bring those thoughts to life.
