There is power in being unrelenting.
It isn’t the action that gets you results. It’s the consistent action that produces results.
It isn’t the action perfectly taken once or twice that makes a difference. It’s the taking of that action over and over again, time after time, relentlessly. The action may not be quite right, but over time, it gets you closer and closer to the ideal. You gain effectiveness little by little. Over time, you get closer.
It’s important to take the first step, to begin. But no one talks about the 2nd step. Or the 3rd. Or the 333rd. But the unrelenting march from that first step is what moves you forward.
Sometimes being unrelenting is difficult. You reach a plateau; your progress stalls. But being unrelenting means learning to live on the plateau, continuing on even when it feels like no progress is being made.
Some will wonder why you keep at it so long, why you don’t give up, give in, and go home. They don’t understand your mission. They don’t understand its meaning.
Some will wonder how you go on, why you aren’t frustrated, disappointed, or cowed. They don’t understand that you can’t not continue, that it’s what you do because its who you are.
More will criticize you for your pig-headed stubbornness. They’ll suggest that you don’t know when to quit, that you don’t when you’ve had enough.
A small few will see the value in your approach. They’ll understand that it isn’t the single action that matters but the consistent unrelenting pursuit, day after day, that makes the difference.
Fewer still will follow.
Be unrelenting.
