I started writing and publishing daily, including weekends, holidays, and any day that ends in the letter "y." Since making the decision in 2008 to write and publish daily, I have published every day, minus 13 days I was in Tibet. Over 14 years, I have published something like 5,400 articles. I will continue to write every day, as this is my practice, one I will keep until I can no longer push the keys on my computer.
While the The Sales Blog platform has been good to me, and I intend to keep it running, I have new writing and publishing projects that need my time and effort. Going forward, I will publish on sales or sales leadership on weekdays, reserving the weekends for other work. On the weekends, I will write the three books that I have outlined (two on sales and one novel). I am also making this change to give me more time for every piece I write and publish.
On the weekends, I will write about topics outside of sales and business, as I have much to say about society and the direction things are going in the third decade of the 21st century. Should you wish to follow this content, you will find it on Substack.
Next to me is a stack of index cards, each with one topic that I believe requires attention. Next to the index cards is a stack of books that are matched to the topics, some read, many more in the queue, each patiently waiting for me to pick it up, process it, distill the insights, and add them to my Zettelkasten (one on index cards, the other in Notion).
Over this weekend, I read a single book and marked all the insights. I tend to read large, consequential books that allow me to see something that was invisible to me before. The book was the third I read recently on demographics, this one concerned with the low birth rates and the wane of Western civilization.
Last year, I started a book club. The participants found the books helpful, especially the one on demographics and the two on artificial intelligence. It was a good experience, but I had to put it on pause to deal with a number of unrelated challenges.
It’s time to restart the One-Up Book Club, so if you want to read along with me, keep an eye out for instructions on how to sign up. Know that some of the books we read will be large enough to prevent a Zeppelin from floating away. But they will be worth it.
