Want to know why you are not a hustler? It is because you aren’t hustling.

  • You don’t want to work hard. You build success on a lot of hard work. It’s popular to say “work smarter, not harder,” but these ideas are not mutually exclusive. If you’re going to succeed, if you’re going to hustle, you are going to need to work smart, and you are also going to need to work hard. There is nothing about the word “hustle” that suggests a way to succeed that doesn’t require hard work. The definition of “hustle” has hard work built-in.
  • You don’t want to work with a sense of urgency. The word “hustle” means to work with a great sense of urgency. It means to move quickly, to get things done, and to produce results. Hustlers don’t procrastinate. They do what they need to do now. No one has to ask them or remind them what they’re supposed to be doing because they move from one task to the next quickly and efficiently. They work like they don’t have enough time, instead of sitting around like they have more time than work.
  • You don’t want to work consistently. Hustlers hustle. They work until they complete some task and then they choose another to complete. They don’t spend time distracted by the Internet. They haven’t seen many of the most popular television shows either, even the ones on Netflix. They probably spent a good time of their weekend working, because consistently working is what hustlers do. Hustlers don’t hustle sporadically. They hustle.
  • You don’t want to do the difficult work. You will never meet a hustler who is afraid of doing the most difficult work. If that means they have to sell, they sell. If that means they must have difficult client conversations about money, they have those conversations. If that means they need to take on some task that no one else wants, the hustler will take on that task without a second thought. If it needs to get done, a hustler gets it done. Hustlers don’t avoid the difficult work.

If you want a greater level of success, these are some of the things you must do. There is only one obstacle standing between you and your goals, and that obstacle stares at you each morning when you look in the mirror. If you’re not a hustler, it’s because you don’t want to hustle.
