Some people are ungrateful and displeased. They believe that in order to be grateful they would have to have something that they now don’t have, that they would have be someone they yet are not. Ungrateful people believe that they can only be happy when they finally acquire what they believe they are missing. But these people won’t be grateful or pleased when they have whatever they feel they are missing.

Gratitude is a decision. Gratitude is a mindset.

The trick to being happy and successful is to be grateful and pleased even while you are striving for something more.

You can be grateful for what you have right now. You can be grateful for the love you share with the most important people in your life. You can be grateful for your health. You can be grateful for the time you have. You can be grateful that your situation isn’t that of the billions of others whose lot in life is challenging in ways that you can’t imagine.

You can be pleased with what you have. You can take care of the things you have, and you can have a sense of pride, regardless as to whether or not someone else has something more than you have. This isn’t always easy in the acquisitive society in which we now live, but it’s important.

Be more, do more, have more (in that order)

You can be grateful and pleased and still be dissatisfied. In fact, the trick to growing in every way is to be grateful, to be pleased, but to strive to do even better. You can want to be more, do more, and have more (I recommend that exact order) while being grateful and pleased. You can be grateful and pleased while striving to reach your full potential.

When you are more, do more, and have more, you can be even more grateful. You can give more.

Gratitude is giving more

You’ll know that you are truly grateful and truly pleased (even if you are still displeased enough to keep growing) when you give back. You’ll know that you are happy with what you are and what you have when what makes you happy is giving someone else something for which they can be grateful.
