Here is one way you might think about the order of your work.
- Creative work: It is easiest to create good and useful content when you are in a resourceful state. By doing creative work first, you use your best energy on the most important and longest lasting work you do each day.
- People Work: It takes energy to have meaningful and transformational conversations with other people. After creative work, this work requires your very best energy. You want to bring your best energy to the work you do with the important people in your life.
- Routine Work: The routine work is the work that you have to do that requires less of your concentration and creativity. It might be meetings, reviewing reports, or some phone calls. It includes your email, too. You don’t need the same bandwidth to do this work.
- Organizing Work: The work of organizing and planning doesn’t take as much psychic RAM as some other work. This work is easy to do when you have done so much of the other work that you don’t have enough energy for a major task. If you are going to clean your desk or organize your digital clutter, this work can be done after you’ve done creative work, people work, and routine work.
