How to Get Revenge on Haters

A few days ago I wrote a post about how to deal with haters and trolls. I wrote the post for my younger brother, and he found it very helpful for thinking about some issues he has in a new, and highly visible, job. But, I forgot the most important piece of advice for those who would wish for your failure.

If you really want to seek revenge on those who wish you would fail, that criticize you unfairly, or that disparage you and your efforts, the best thing you can do is to succeed.

Ignoring the haters is a good first step. But if you want to make them crazy, you succeed. You do your best work. You give it everything you’ve got. You show up early. You stay late. You dig in, and you make a difference.

The ultimate act of defiance isn’t to argue with trolls. It isn’t to try to win them over (although there is something to be said for killing them with kindness). It isn’t trying to convince them to leave you alone.

The sweetest revenge is success. That’s where you put your effort and energy.

“The sweetest revenge is success” – Couldn’t agree more!

      I believe it is!

  • Marc Zazeela

Good advice, Anthony. The best course of action is to ignore them and go about your business.  When someone disparages me privately or publicly, I always consider the source.

I could not care less about them or what they think of me. The only opinions that count are the opinions of folks I respect and love. All others are pretty meaningless.

So, flame away if you like.  I’ve got thick, fire retardant skin!

    • S. Anthony Iannarino

Fire retardant skin? You must be a superhero of some sort, Marc.

Trolls give the best feedback. That’s not saying that they know what their talking about. But their perception of you will provide you with insight. Use that insight to succeed so brilliantly that the trolls can only curse the day you were born.

    • S. Anthony Iannarino

Feedback is one thing. Vitriolic hatred is another. You should see what some of the haters are saying. It’s embarrassing . . . and I am no prude.

  • Blake Cavignac

Let the haters hate and pay them no attention.  But if revenge drives you to succeed and make a difference in the lives of others, then by all means, get after it and GET REVENGE!

    • S. Anthony Iannarino

I don’t spend a second thinking about them, Blake. But I know some who are consumed, so, why not encourage them to make the haters pay by succeeding wildly?

        Couldn’t agree more Anthony!

  • Cara Celli

Well said. Why not bask in the simple fact that they are jealous? Knowing that always makes me smile:)

I couldn’t agree more…plus ignoring them COMPLETELY makes them crazy! I’ve been blessed with few haters…some people that didn’t like what I had to say but most of those disagreed with me with respect. My time will come, I’m sure…
