Thanks for the suggestion regarding Toastmasters. I have been going to a local chapter for the last couple weeks and was officially voted in yesterday. I agree the opportunity to respond to questions which you are not prepared is already helping me think on my feet. Great advice.

Anthony, I particularly like tip #3 : Use Their Words.

The basic concept is what makes us tick in so many other ways - we like familiarity and are most likely to associate positively with people who are similar to us. We also absorb and agree with what is said more readily when we hear words and concepts we are already familiar with.

I discuss a similar concept in in my book "Win More Business - Write Better Proposals". Even with a proposal response, which I consider to be a one-sided sales conversation, the technique you suggest still applies. I call it "Mirroring".

What a refreshing and sensible article. The simplicity and clarity of this approach is clearly effective. It also helps you find your natural voice, which is essential in establishing rapport. Great article. Thanks.

Thank you Anthony. Once again you deliver for your readers. The world would be a very different place if we applied your 4 points. We sales people should be especially mindful of the first point. We are clueless when we fail to listen.
